We’re not green-washing aquaponics! Almost every commercial aquaponics system is made of a heap of plastic that leaches into the food and all parts eventually ends up in a landfill. Window Aquatica has NO sythetic materials that touch the water, fish, or plants. We have been meticulous to uphold the highest standards for organic food production. All materials that are in contact with the aquaponic ecosystem are natural materials that are either biodegradable or recyclable.

We engineered a genius water circulation system. Air is pumped to the bottom of the tank through a stainless steel tube. Then the air bubbles rise to the top, lifting the water into the bamboo growing bed. This means that Window Aquatica is healthier and more visually appealing than other aquariums, because it does not need a plastic water pump submerged in the aquarium.

The aquarium is a beautiful monolithic glass piece. It’s one continuous piece of glass with no joints or adhesives. Most aquariums are rectangular pieces of glass that are glued together. This glass is non-toxic and recyclable.

The growing bed is made of one piece of bamboo. Again there’s none of the plastics and adhesives that virtually all other aquaponics systems use. The bamboo is sustainable, non-toxic and biodegradable.

To hold the clay pebbles in the growing bed, we lace the bamboo opening with hemp twine. We also use hemp twine to hold the Straw Aquatic Shade in place, again eliminating the need for adhesives. Clay pebbles and hemp twine are both sustainable, non-toxic and biodegradable/compostable.

The Straw Aquatic Shade wraps around the back side of the aquarium to protect the fish from sun’s light and heat while providing the fish with a natural feel that they enjoy. The shade is made from stitched straw. The straw is sustainable, non-toxic and biodegradable/compostable.

The only remaining parts are the air pump and air tube. These are the only plastic parts, but have no contact with the plants, fish, or water.

NOTES:
Do NOT buy this system if the room you are putting it in ever gets below 60F or above 85F.
Because of the size of the aquarium and it’s placement in the window, there are only a few types of fish that can live in this system. Your room must be maintained between 60F-85F to keep fish thriving in your window all year round. If your are pushing the limits of 60F or 85F, only mosquito fish will work. If the room is heated and air conditioned and you are maintaining your home between 65F and 75F, for example, you will have more options for the type of fish to use. Please look at the fish we are selling as they have been specifically selected for Window Aquatica.
